RAIN RAIN RAIN

RAIN RAIN RAIN

Recent weeks have seen an unprecedented amount of rain in Jerusalem and during the last few days we have also had thunder-storms, snow, hail, sleet and extremely strong winds.  This is great news for Israel which has been suffering from drought for the last seven years, not however, so good for dog owners lacking a garden.  The dogs have not been too bothered by having their daily walks cut from four to three but are very fed-up with standing patiently while their wet and muddy paws are dried and their dripping fur and ears toweled dry.  The good news is that the level of Lake Kinneret, (The Sea of Galili) one of Israel’s chief suppliers of water, has gone up by 20 centimetres (just under 8 inches) over the weekend.  Wonderful news but we should not get too excited, the experts are telling us that we need two more consecutive winters, as wet as this one, to completely fill the Kinneret and replenish the mountain and coastal aquifers.
